FAQ

What's the difference between Viking A series and B series cues?

Viking A series cues represent their premium line ($600-1,200+) featuring exotic woods, intricate inlay work, and multiple layers of decorative rings. B series cues ($300-600) offer simpler designs with fewer points and less ornate inlays while maintaining identical construction quality. Both series use the same North American maple, ViKORE shaft technology, and Wisconsin craftsmanship. The performance is identical - your choice depends on aesthetic preference and budget. All Viking cues include lifetime warranty regardless of series.

Are Viking ViKORE shafts worth the upgrade?

ViKORE shafts reduce deflection by approximately 25% compared to standard maple through their engineered core construction. Players report more accurate cut shots and better cue ball prediction on english shots. The $300-400 upgrade cost is justified for intermediate to advanced players who notice deflection on thin cuts. Beginners may not benefit as much until their fundamentals improve. ViKORE shafts maintain Viking's solid hit feel unlike some carbon fiber options. They're compatible with Viking cues manufactured after 2012 using the Viking Quick Release joint.

What is Viking's Valhalla line?

The Valhalla line represents Viking's ultra-premium custom cues ($2,000-5,000+) featuring museum-quality inlay work, rare exotic woods, and intricate carving. Each Valhalla cue requires 60-100 hours of handwork by Viking's master craftsmen. These cues are functional art pieces combining exceptional playability with collectible value. Valhalla cues include premium ViKORE shafts, custom leather wraps, and hand-fitted joints. Production is limited to 50-100 cues annually. Most serious collectors view Valhalla cues as investments that appreciate over time.

How long is Viking's warranty?

Viking offers a lifetime warranty to the original owner covering warping and manufacturing defects. The warranty covers shaft straightness, joint integrity, and structural issues under normal playing conditions. Cosmetic damage, tip replacement, and normal wear aren't covered. To claim warranty service, contact Viking with your cue's serial number and description. Viking typically repairs or replaces defective components within 3-4 weeks. The warranty transfers to subsequent owners for 5 years from original purchase date.

Can Viking cues use other brands' shafts?

Viking uses a proprietary Quick Release joint system that's not compatible with most other brands without adapters. However, several aftermarket companies make joint adapters allowing Viking butts to accept Predator, OB, and other popular shafts. These adapters cost $40-80 and require professional installation. Keep in mind that adding an adapter changes the cue's balance point and may affect hit feedback. Most players get better results staying within Viking's shaft ecosystem, which includes standard maple and ViKORE low deflection options.

What makes Viking cues better than imported cues?

Viking cues are manufactured in Wisconsin using North American hard rock maple, superior to the softer maple used in most imported cues. Their wood is air-dried for 18+ months before machining, ensuring dimensional stability. Imported cues typically use kiln-dried wood that's more prone to warping. Viking's joint work and pin installation tolerances are tighter, providing better energy transfer and hit consistency. The lifetime warranty backs up their construction quality. While imported cues can play well, Viking's manufacturing process produces more consistent long-term performance.

How much do Viking pool cues cost?

Viking cues range from $300 B series production models to $5,000+ Valhalla customs. The sweet spot for most players is $400-800, which includes B series with upgraded points or entry-level A series designs. Mid-range A series ($800-1,500) feature complex inlay work and exotic wood combinations. Custom Vikings ordered directly from the factory start around $2,000. All price points include Viking's lifetime warranty and Wisconsin craftsmanship. Higher prices reflect materials and artistic detail rather than performance differences.

What tip size should I get on a Viking cue?

Viking offers 12.75mm, 13mm, and 13.5mm tip diameters, with 13mm being the most popular choice. The 12.75mm tip provides better cue ball control and spin generation, preferred by advanced players shooting position play. The 13mm offers balanced performance suitable for most players. The 13.5mm tip is slightly more forgiving on off-center hits, good for beginners or bar table play. Your choice affects how the cue feels through your bridge hand - test different sizes if possible before ordering.

Are Viking cues good for American rotation games?

Viking cues excel at rotation games like 9-ball and 10-ball due to their solid hit and predictable deflection characteristics. The standard maple shafts provide excellent feedback for controlling speed on long table-length position routes. Upgrading to a ViKORE shaft reduces deflection on cut shots while maintaining Viking's characteristic solid hit. Many professional rotation players use Viking cues including Shane Van Boening and Skyler Woodward. The 18.5-19.5 oz weight range preferred for rotation is standard for Viking production cues.

Do Viking cues come with a case?

Viking production cues typically include a soft vinyl 1x1 case protecting the cue during basic transport. These soft cases aren't suitable for airline travel or heavy protection needs. Most serious players upgrade to a hard case for better protection, especially when investing $500+ in a cue. Viking doesn't manufacture their own hard cases but recommends quality brands like Instroke, JB, and Action. Quarter King stocks hard cases in 2x4 and 3x5 configurations compatible with Viking cues, with prices starting around $80.
