Description

The Whyte Carbon Fiber Performance Pro-Taper Break Shaft is a 13 mm carbon fiber break shaft that Viking also labels the Whyte Lightning Pro Taper shaft. The pro taper has a long parallel tip section, which Viking says is meant for maximum break speed and accuracy. Construction is Dual-Core Seamless Carbon with Micro-Compression technology and a Multi-Density Fill Pattern, and the surface is described as low friction and uncoated.

Standard specifications are a Tiger Icebreaker tip, a black phenolic ferrule, a 29 inch length, rear balance and a weight of 3.95 ounces, which can vary with the adapter used and its age. The shaft carries a limited lifetime warranty. The joint insert is selected from 14 styles, from Viking Quick Release and Radial to several 3/8 and 5/16 thread patterns.

Viking also states that the warranty on Triple 60 carbon shafts is void when the shaft is used on a cue with an aluminum pin, so check your cue’s pin before fitting a carbon shaft.

Questions about this cue

What joint does the Whyte Carbon Fiber Performance Pro-Taper Break Shaft use?

It uses a 3/8X11, 3/8X10, 3/8X14, 5/16X14, 5/16X14 Piloted, 5/16X18, 5/16X18 Piloted, McDermott Quick Release, Radial, Uni-Loc, Viking Quick Release, Wavy joint. That means any 3/8X11, 3/8X10, 3/8X14, 5/16X14, 5/16X14 Piloted, 5/16X18, 5/16X18 Piloted, McDermott Quick Release, Radial, Uni-Loc, Viking Quick Release, Wavy shaft will thread straight onto this butt, so you can add a spare or upgrade later without changing cues. If you are matching a shaft you already own, check its pin against 3/8X11, 3/8X10, 3/8X14, 5/16X14, 5/16X14 Piloted, 5/16X18, 5/16X18 Piloted, McDermott Quick Release, Radial, Uni-Loc, Viking Quick Release, Wavy before ordering — joints are not cross-compatible.

What shaft diameter is the Whyte Carbon Fiber Performance Pro-Taper Break Shaft?

This cue ships with a 13.00mm shaft. Thinner shafts put more spin on the cue ball and feel crisper through the stroke; larger diameters feel fuller and are more forgiving on off-centre hits. Neither is better — it comes down to how you like the cue to hit.

Is this a carbon fiber or wood shaft cue?

The Whyte Carbon Fiber Performance Pro-Taper Break Shaft comes with a Carbon Fiber shaft. Carbon fiber will not warp, ignores humidity and deflects less; quality maple gives the traditional feel a lot of players still prefer. Both play at a high level, so pick the one that matches how you want the cue to feel.

What is the Whyte Carbon Fiber Performance Pro-Taper Break Shaft built for?

It is set up as a break cue. Playing cues are balanced for control on shot-making, break cues are heavier with a harder tip for power transfer, and jump cues are short and light to get the cue ball airborne. Using the right one also protects your playing cue from break wear.

Is Quarter King an authorized Whyte Carbon dealer?

Yes. We are an authorized Whyte Carbon dealer, so this cue is genuine and carries the full manufacturer warranty against warpage and defects in workmanship. Warranty claims go through us — you do not have to deal with the factory yourself.
