Radial

A Radial joint threads a pin directly into wood or phenolic with no metal shaft insert, giving a wood-to-wood, or wood-to-carbon, connection at the joint. Several cue makers build their own version of this idea, including Predator's Uni-Loc Radial and Jacoby's own Radial joint. Quarter King carries 137 Radial products, priced from about $10 to about $2,100.

Every item is brand new and 100% genuine, backed by its full manufacturer warranty. Free shipping on orders over $98 (contiguous US) and 30-day returns. Every spec on this page is checked against the manufacturer's published data by our Wilmington, NC store team.

About Radial

What a Radial joint is

Unlike a quick-release joint, which locks a metal pin into a metal-lined channel, a Radial pin is threaded, typically around seven threads, and screws straight into matching threads cut in the wood or phenolic shaft itself. There is no brass or steel shaft insert in between. Predator, which trademarks its own Uni-Loc Radial version, markets this as eliminating the buzz that can creep into a joint over time, since there is no separate metal part to loosen or wear. Because the underlying concept, a threaded pin with no shaft insert, isn't exclusive to one company, other cue makers including Jacoby have built their own Radial-style joints on the same principle, which is why the Radial term on our site spans more than one maker's parts. Radial pins are also offered in a few different materials, aluminum and stainless steel among them, mainly to fine-tune the finished cue's balance and weight rather than to change how the joint itself functions.

How it plays and who it suits

The direct wood-to-wood or wood-to-carbon contact gives a tighter, more solid feel that a number of custom cue makers favor over an all-metal joint. The tradeoff is assembly time: because the pin has to travel further into a full thread engagement, joining and unjointing a Radial cue takes longer than a one-and-a-half-turn quick-release joint. In exchange, Radial joints tend to need less maintenance over the life of the cue, since there is no metal insert to clean or re-face. Radial pins show up most often on special-edition and cuemaker-collaboration cues rather than a brand's core recurring lineup.

Radial products at Quarter King

Jacoby carries the largest share of our Radial lineup at 53 products, followed by Predator (18), Poison (15), unbranded parts (12), JFlowers (10), Universal (8), Lucasi (5), Scorpion (4), Talon (4), Action (3), Fury (2) and Joss (1), with prices from about $10 to about $2,100. The lineup includes cues like the Jacoby Black Out JCBBJB Break Jump Cue and the Jacoby Black V4 Carbon Fiber Shaft, 12.3mm, both in stock, alongside joint protector sets sized to the same pin and Fury cues like the Fury FULC07 LC Series. Shop by brand at Jacoby, Predator, Poison and JFlowers.

How to choose and compatibility

Radial-pin shafts are not cross-compatible with a maker's own quick-release joint, such as Predator's Uni-Loc, even though both come from the same company, so match a replacement shaft by joint type first, not just brand. Radial also has nothing in common with generic thread pins like 5/16-18 or 3/8-10. If you're shopping for a Radial-compatible carbon fiber shaft, start under carbon fiber shafts, confirm tip diameter under shaft size, and use the shaft fit finder or glossary if you're unsure.

Frequently asked questions about Radial

What is a Radial joint?

A threaded pin that screws directly into wood or phenolic in the shaft, with no metal shaft insert, giving a wood-to-wood or wood-to-carbon feel at the joint.

Is Radial the same on every brand?

No. Predator's Uni-Loc Radial and Jacoby's own Radial joint both use the threaded, insert-free concept, but each maker cuts its own pin, so shafts are not automatically interchangeable across brands.

Is a Radial joint slower to assemble than a quick-release joint?

Yes. The pin needs a full thread engagement to seat, so it takes longer to join and unjoint than a one-and-a-half-turn quick-release joint like Uni-Loc.

Can I put a Radial shaft on a Uni-Loc Quick-Release butt?

No. Even from the same maker, Radial and Uni-Loc Quick-Release are different pins and are not interchangeable.
