3/8-10 is a thick joint pin, 3/8 inch across with 10 threads per inch, among the coarsest and deepest-cut pins in general use. McDermott has built its cues around this pin for roughly four decades, and several other makers use the same spec or a close variant. Quarter King carries 134 3/8-10 products, priced from about $10 to about $2,350.
Every item is brand new and 100% genuine, backed by its full manufacturer warranty. Free shipping on orders over $98 (contiguous US) and 30-day returns. Every spec on this page is checked against the manufacturer's published data by our Wilmington, NC store team.

The larger 3/8-inch diameter and coarser 10-threads-per-inch cut make this one of the thickest, strongest joint pins on the market, which is part of why it has held up as McDermott's primary joint for so long. Most executions run a metal pin threaded into a machined wood insert in the shaft, so the connection sits somewhere between a full wood-to-wood joint and a full metal-to-metal one depending on the collar material used around the pin. Because it is a shared industry spec rather than one company's patented mechanism, it also shows up across other brands, sometimes with small dimensional differences; McDermott itself notes that joint diameter can vary slightly from cue to cue due to finishing methods, so a caliper check is worth doing before ordering a replacement shaft. McDermott's own guidance on its carbon fiber Defy shaft, for example, lists two slightly different joint diameters for the 3/8-10 pin depending on whether the cue has a steel or non-steel collar, which underlines how much finishing can shift the exact fit even within one brand's lineup.
The pin's thickness and deep thread favor durability over decades of regular use, which suits players who want a cue built to be reassembled thousands of times without the joint loosening. Depending on the collar material a maker pairs with the pin, wood, steel, or a synthetic composite, the hit can be tuned softer or stiffer, so two 3/8-10 cues from different brands can still feel quite different from each other even though the underlying pin is the same. That range is a large part of why the pin has stayed popular for so long: it gives cue makers room to tune feel without abandoning a shared, broadly interchangeable thread standard.
McDermott carries the largest share of our 3/8-10 lineup at 83 products, followed by Elite (15), Stealth (14), Summit (11), Action (7), and single listings from JFlowers, Joss, PureX and Quarter King Billiards, with prices from about $10 to about $2,350. Representative picks include the Elite EP34 Cue, in stock, and the Elite EP13 Cue and Elite EP20 Cue, currently out of stock, along with joint protector sets sized to this pin. Despite the similar-looking name, 3/8-10 has nothing in common with Cuetec's 3/8-14 pin, which uses a finer 14-thread cut, or with the thinner 5/16-18 and 5/16-14 pins. Because joint diameter can shift slightly between cues even within the same nominal spec, measure the existing joint with calipers before ordering a replacement shaft, or use our shaft fit finder. Browse shafts by diameter and material, or check the glossary for more on joint terminology.
It is the pin's thread spec: 3/8 inch in diameter, cut with 10 threads per inch. It is one of the thicker, coarser joint pins used across the industry.
McDermott has built its cues around the 3/8-10 pin for roughly four decades. Its thickness and deep thread give a strong, durable connection over long-term use.
Not necessarily. The pin thread is shared across brands, but the collar material around it, wood, steel, or composite, can tune the hit softer or stiffer, so feel varies by maker.
No. They share the 3/8-inch diameter but use different thread counts, 10 versus 14 threads per inch, and are not interchangeable.
