The McDermott Stinger NG08 Jump/Break Cue is a McDermott break, jump cue sold by Quarter King Billiards. It has a 3/8X10 joint and a 13.25mm classic wood shaft. It is in stock at $437, with free shipping over $98 and 30-day returns.

Description

Black paint and a grey Stinger graphic mark the McDermott Stinger NG08, a break and jump cue with a painted maple forearm. A textured, honeycomb pattern synthetic sport wrap covers the grip, and the butt ends in a black plastic plate and a plug-style McDermott bumper. There is no collar.

It uses the patented Stinger shaft, 29 inch solid maple with a 1/2 inch Ivorene ferrule that the Stinger stem passes through, topped with a 13.25mm phenolic tip. McDermott says the stem carries the impact to the center of the shaft, which makes for an efficient, precise hit with a large sweet spot. The 3/8×10 main joint has a phenolic insert, and the cue also has a quick release jump joint.

Weights of 18, 19, 20 and 21 oz are available, and the weight bolt allows adjustment. The cue is made in the USA and is covered by McDermott’s lifetime warranty. It does not come with an extension, case or joint protectors.

    Stinger

Bought for husband and he but 2 balls in corner pockets first use of break stick

  2. Taylor J. –

    Outstanding except that…

The wrap has a seam. Otherwise it’s terrific. I like the hardness of the tip (twss). It’s not super hard, and prompts a great jump. The shaft does have a noticable ding towards the tip, which sucks. First shaft I’ve ever recieved from a retailer with a ding. :/ Can’t give it 3.5, so 4 it is.

  3. Sam W. –

    Up’ed my breaks and jumps

Slots, easy to use. Will last a long time A+ purchase.

  4. Tom J. –

    Great

To be frank, love this cue. It breaks excellent its jumps pretty decent (still new to jumping since APA doesn’t allow jumping with a specific jump cue) Its tremendously helped my breaks and allowed me to pull back on power for more accuracy and still get a terrific spread. Had a little issue with UPS and tracking the package. That’s the only reason it got 4 instead of 5 stars.

  5. Rick G. –

Great stick at a Great price.

Stunning American made jump/cue. Very forgiving

    The McDermitt NG08 stinger jump

The McDermitt NG08 stinger jump break pool cue by far is the best break cue stick I’ve ever had the pleasure to own. It has a solid head and I am pocketing more balls than I have in the past and that is truly important to my game right now I’ve let some friends actually Use the break cue stick and they thought very highly of it I couldn’t be happier

  7. Beth G. –

Its a really decent cue stick

Its a really solid cue haven’t tryed jumping with it yet came very well pack quite friendly staff that helped alot

  8. Jim B. –

    Great Breaking Pool cue

I really enjoy this cue for breaking. It really scatters the balls around. I have yet to try the jumping off it since i am new to it. I love the sports grip on the cue stick feels nice. The people on my team really am impressed by the feel of it. Only down side is that I wish the website would give you the option to do metal on metal joint instead of just the standard metal pin to wood threads. Otherwise the breaking/jumping pool cue is pretty nice. Would adore to have the sports grip on my shooting cue!

  9. Pat F. –

    Great Item

Great cue! The textured grip is a nice touch. Don’t hesitate on this one. Definitely improved my breaks.

  10. Alex P. –

    Break for the win

Been researching a lot for a break stick and just bought this cue stick and I am really loving it. My dad and wife are also using it instead of their old ones. Its a really fine break stick. Highly recommend it.

  12. Riley C. –

    Its a fine cue and

Its a decent pool cue and has great power. i havent got to try out the jump cue yet, but it sure scatters the balls pretty decent.

  13. John S. –

    Feels terrific in the hand

Feels great in the hand and the easy detachment of the rear section turns this into a great jump cue to boot. Would say that the sports wrap is an acquired taste but definately preferable in my opinion to a linen wrap or any non wrap bar cue.

  14. Beth S. –

A great jump/break stick for the price

Robust breaker for the money. I am partial to a wood to wood joint, and the feel of the hit is extremely smooth and natural. QR on the jumper is also super silky and feels great. I was a little skeptical about the sport grip, but it feels good in the hand and doesn’t deter from the overall aesthetic of the stick. It may have some issues fitting into some cases because of the inherent tackiness of the grip rubber and the fact that many cases have felt in the tubes, so be aware of that. I have an older model 2×4 Predator Sport case, and had to swap my shooting cue stick butt around to the other side because the breaker wouldn’t fit. Apart from that one minor issue, this is a wonderful jump break cue stick, and epitomizes McDermott craftsmanship.

  15. Sue B. –

Am impressed by the grip. Very solid

In my experience, love the grip. Really pleasant break cue.

  16. Sarah R. –

It’s an awesome jump cue stick

It’s an awesome jump pool cue

  17. Ann R. –

    Good Breaking Pool cue

The grip is stellar. I ordered a 21 oz but plan to add extra weight. I’m still getting use to the hard tip. Even when using a lot of chalk I still miscued a couple of times. Although every time I struck a break sturdy the balls scattered and the sound was like thunder. I have not yet tried to jump a ball yet so can not comment. I do really like this stick and think it will be a great asset to my game and save the tip from my playing stick.

  18. Amy A. –

    My Stinger is Awesome!

Great cue for its’ intended purpose. It feels like I have control when I jump a ball, not like the competitor brands with a phenolic tip, I would miscue so much with them, I ended up selling those jump and break cues to order the Stinger. It just simply feels like an overall solid cue that I can trust to get the job done. 🙂

  19. Rick E. –

    Love the way it feels

Am impressed by the way it feels in my hands and the way it breaks is awesome. And my Jumping is way better with this stick. I am very satisfied with the cue. Thank you

    Breaking balls

To be frank, well worth the price point. Breaks balls like a champ

  22. Amy R. –

    10/10 break cue

My break has required so much less effort since I got my break cue stick. The grip feels extremely comfortable with the hexagon pattern helping with slip resistance when you pocket the cue stick ball. I look forward to learning how to jump with this stick!

  23. Lisa N. –

    Terrific break cue

To be frank, really like this grip. Am thrilled with the sound and snap this has when you break, extremely effective. I haven’t had an opportunity to jump with it yet. I am somewhat of a McDermott fanboy and this purchase did not disappoint

  24. Jen P. –

    Great feel on the grip

Wonderful feel on the grip and striking the rack. I would recommend this to anyone.

  25. Pat D. –

    Wonderful Breaker for all

From my perspective, i have played a few matches with this breaker and am definitely happy with the purchase. I adore the grip! I may want to add a weight to it for more power because the heaviest option was 21oz. Other then that, it has been a superb purchase! I do not jump, yet, so I can’t inform on that option.

  26. Beth N. –

    I haven’t used it yet

I haven’t used it yet for jumping but it’s a amazing break cue stick. I upgraded the tip and it provides a lot of action on the break. If you’re looking for a cue that’ll added power to your hit, this is it.

  36. Dan B. –

    I named this pool cue

To be frank, i named this pool cue Crusher, because that’s what it does! It crushes the rack and gives me the top-notch rack breaks ever. The feel of the cue in my hands could not be better! The rubberized wrap provides an excellent grip and an stellar confidence inspiring feel. I love my Crusher

    Weight changing tool

I bought the McDermott NG08 Stinger Break / Jump Cue for my fiancé’ and she loves it. I do have a question. How to a change the weights because it seems like there is a special tool to take the weight out because the depth they are installed. A standard Allen Wrench will not reach. Thank you. If anyone knows where I can purchase this tool, please let me know.

Weight & Balance

This cue is offered in WBMCD, Yes. A lighter cue is easier to accelerate for a whippy, spin-friendly stroke; a heavier cue plants more solidly and drives the cue ball with less effort. Most players settle between 19 and 20 ounces.

This model takes a weight-bolt system, so the weight and balance point can be tuned after purchase. Adding weight toward the butt moves the balance rearward for a more planted feel; less weight shifts it forward for a livelier stroke. The balance point on a finished cue usually sits about 18 to 19 inches from the butt.

Questions about this cue

What joint does the McDermott Stinger NG08 Jump/Break Cue use?

It uses a 3/8X10 joint. That means any 3/8X10 shaft will thread straight onto this butt, so you can add a spare or upgrade later without changing cues. If you are matching a shaft you already own, check its pin against 3/8X10 before ordering — joints are not cross-compatible.

What shaft diameter is the McDermott Stinger NG08 Jump/Break Cue?

This cue ships with a 13.25mm shaft. Thinner shafts put more spin on the cue ball and feel crisper through the stroke; larger diameters feel fuller and are more forgiving on off-centre hits. Neither is better — it comes down to how you like the cue to hit.

Is this a carbon fiber or wood shaft cue?

The McDermott Stinger NG08 Jump/Break Cue comes with a Classic Wood shaft. Carbon fiber will not warp, ignores humidity and deflects less; quality maple gives the traditional feel a lot of players still prefer. Both play at a high level, so pick the one that matches how you want the cue to feel.

What is the McDermott Stinger NG08 Jump/Break Cue built for?

It is set up as a break, jump cue. Playing cues are balanced for control on shot-making, break cues are heavier with a harder tip for power transfer, and jump cues are short and light to get the cue ball airborne. Using the right one also protects your playing cue from break wear.

What kind of grip does it have?

The grip is sport wrap. Irish linen wicks sweat and stays tacky, leather is plush and premium, and a no-wrap finish is fast and needs no maintenance. If your hands run warm, linen is usually the safer pick.

Is Quarter King an authorized McDermott dealer?

Yes. We are an authorized McDermott dealer, so this cue is genuine and carries the full manufacturer warranty against warpage and defects in workmanship. Warranty claims go through us — you do not have to deal with the factory yourself.

How fast does it ship, and can I return it?

Shipping is free on orders over $98 in the contiguous US, $5.50 flat otherwise, and you get tracking as soon as it moves. Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery on unchalked, unused product — contact us first for a return authorization so it is credited without delay.

Compatible Shafts

This cue uses a 3/8X10 joint, so these shafts thread straight onto it. Not sure? Send us the cue and we will confirm the fit before you buy.
