Mezz markets the Sneaky Pete, sold as the MSP2, as a "beloved classic," a plain four-prong design built on the same United joint and WX-Sigma shaft as Mezz's higher-profile series. We carry five Sneaky Pete cues, all wrapless, priced from about $540 up to about $600. Below, we cover what an AZBilliards owner said about upgrading the stock shaft and what Mezz's warranty covers.
Every item is brand new and 100% genuine, backed by its full manufacturer warranty. Free shipping on orders over $98 (contiguous US) and 30-day returns. Every spec on this page is checked against the manufacturer's published data by our Wilmington, NC store team.
The Sneaky Pete is Mezz's plainest cue, a traditional four-prong design built to look like an unassuming house cue while carrying the same Miki Co., Ltd. engineering as the rest of the brand underneath. Mezz has built its reputation partly through its professional player staff over the years: 1998 world champion Kunihiko Takahashi joined in 1997, 2001 world champion Mika Immonen joined in 2004, and 2004 world champion Alex Pagulayan joined in 2008, the same year his own signature limited cue was released. Two of the newest names joined within the last couple of years: New Zealand's Jack Beggs came aboard in January 2025, and Sweden's Christian Sparrenlöv Fischer signed on the December before that; around the same stretch, Allison Fisher's own signature cue, the AF-1, entered the lineup in February 2025. Every cue in the series is built 100 percent in Japan at the Miki Co. factory, which went through an expansion completed in November 2019. Yuji Miki became chairman of Miki Co. in 2005 and named his son, Kazunori Miki, as the company's president.
Mezz markets the Sneaky Pete, model code MSP2, as a "beloved classic," built around a simple four-prong forearm join rather than the more elaborate designs found on series like EC9. The idea is a cue that reads as understated in a public room while still running Mezz's own joint and shaft underneath.
Every Sneaky Pete we carry ships with the WX-Sigma shaft, the same straight pro-taper, low-deflection shaft Mezz uses across several of its playing-cue series, rather than a downgraded shaft to match the simpler cosmetics.
The Sneaky Pete uses Mezz's United joint, the piloted, precision quick-release system the company developed in 1996, which Mezz's own product copy credits for the stability that gives the pairing what it calls an unmatched advantage.
We carry five Sneaky Pete cues: ZZSP01 and ZZSP03 at about $560, ZZSP02 at about $600, and ZZSP04 and ZZSP05 at about $540. All five are wrapless with the United joint and a 12.50mm classic wood shaft; our current stock runs mostly to tan and brown wood tones, with black and white also represented. At $540 to $600, Sneaky Pete is the most affordable series in our current Mezz pool cue lineup, which otherwise runs up to about $1,260.
All five Sneaky Pete cues share the same build: a birdseye maple forearm accented with a different wood species at the points, a 12.5mm Kamui Soft Original tip on an XJ Powerplate ferrule, the WX-Sigma shaft, and an ivory-colored Juma butt plate finished in black with a gold Mezz Cues logo. The differences are cosmetic. The ZZSP01 pairs bocote points with a bocote butt sleeve, the ZZSP03 uses black-dyed points with a black butt sleeve, the ZZSP02 uses cocobolo, the ZZSP04 uses morado, and the ZZSP05 uses purple heart. We price the ZZSP01 and ZZSP03 at about $560, the ZZSP02 at about $600, and the ZZSP04 and ZZSP05 at about $540, all out of stock at the moment. Every Sneaky Pete we carry also ships with Mezz's WBMEZZ weight-adjustment bolt system and includes a joint protector, per our own product data.
Birdseye maple, the forearm wood on every Sneaky Pete we carry, gets its name from the small swirling eyes that show up across the grain, which is why Mezz leaves most of the forearm plain and lets the maple's own figure do the work. The contrasting points at the front of the forearm, in bocote, cocobolo, black-dyed wood, morado or purple heart depending on the model, are a small accent rather than the whole face of the forearm, unlike EC9's approach of covering the entire forearm in one exotic wood. AZBilliards posters comparing the Sneaky Pete to the EC9 line note that part of the MSP2's butt is composite rather than full wood, though both share the same United joint lock-up and the Sigma shaft's pro taper, so the choice between the two series comes down to looks rather than build quality.
Every Sneaky Pete uses a 12.5mm Kamui Soft Original tip, a soft-compression leather tip, seated on an XJ Powerplate ferrule, the same ferrule Mezz uses on its EC9 line. The ivory-colored Juma butt plate at the end of the cue is a synthetic material made to resemble ivory without using the real material, finished with a black panel carrying the gold Mezz Cues logo. That 12.5mm Kamui tip is narrower than the 13mm Sonic tip Mezz fits to break cues like Power Break G and Power Break Kai, in keeping with the finer contact a playing stroke calls for rather than a full-force break. For more terms like these, see our cue glossary.
All five Sneaky Pete cues we carry use the United joint, a 12.50mm classic wood shaft, and a wrapless grip, the most uniform spec sheet of any Mezz series we stock. Across the wider Mezz pool cue category, that United joint appears on 20 of 24 cues, the 12.50mm shaft size on 13 of 24, and a wrapless grip on 12 of 24, so Sneaky Pete's spec sheet lines up with what most Mezz buyers end up choosing anyway. Several Sneaky Pete owners on AZBilliards specifically recommend upgrading beyond the stock shaft, so our shafts category is worth a look if you go that route.
An AZBilliards owner who described his own Sneaky Pete, a bocote, wrapless model, called it "simple, but stunningly beautiful" and said the stock shaft is good but not where Mezz's performance ceiling sits, recommending an upgrade to Mezz's EX Pro shaft to get what he called the best-feeling, super-low-deflection shaft on the market. That's worth knowing before you buy a Sneaky Pete expecting it to play exactly like Mezz's higher-tier series out of the box: the cue and joint share the same underlying Mezz engineering, but the shaft upgrade path is where some owners say the ceiling really opens up. That upgrade path also only runs through Mezz itself: the company has turned down community requests to offer the EX Pro shaft with other brands' joints, so it comes mounted on a Mezz cue or not at all. A separate AZBilliards owner who bought a purple heart Sneaky Pete said the fit between shaft and butt was so snug he could barely feel the joint by hand, and singled out the slimmer-than-average butt diameter, which he had confirmed directly with Mezz USA before ordering, plus a softer feel from the Kamui soft tip. Mezz USA has told other AZBilliards buyers that current Sneaky Pete and Mezz butt sleeves measure 31.2mm in diameter, thinner than most production cues, and other owners describe the shaft meeting the butt so flush you can barely feel a lip at the joint.
Sneaky Pete suits a player who wants Mezz's United joint and low-deflection shaft feel in the plainest, most understated cosmetics the brand offers, rather than exotic wood or inlay work. Worth knowing before your first cue arrives: AZBilliards owners describe the United joint as genuinely tight when new, needing real effort on the final couple of turns before it seats and breaks in. It's part of a wider pattern AZBilliards regulars describe: in several threads, a cue repair technician and multiple longtime owners have rated Mezz among the most consistent production cues they handle, pointing to fit-and-finish quality and a United joint that holds its lockup rather than working loose over years on the table.
Mezz USA's stated warranty on the Sneaky Pete is one year against manufacturing defects from the purchase date, with a further 14-day satisfaction or replacement window on orders placed directly with Mezz USA. Miki Co. separately publishes a non-transferable limited lifetime warranty for the original owner on its own site, manufacturer language that runs well past Mezz USA's one-year figure; that Miki policy, for reference, excludes normal wear and tear, cosmetic blemishes reported after a year of ownership, misuse or abuse, and unauthorized repairs or modifications, and requires any claim to be filed within 30 days of discovering the defect. Worth noting: both of Mezz USA's own Sneaky Pete collection pages, MSP and MSP2, currently show as sold out on the manufacturer's own site, which is worth factoring in if you need a replacement processed directly through Mezz USA. AZBilliards posters have also disagreed on how easy Mezz cues are to find at all: one longtime owner said they're getting hard to source in the US, while another said Mezz USA still had inventory and most models could be added to a cart when he checked, so availability may be worth confirming before you count on a specific colorway.

The joint is what decides whether a shaft fits, and every cue in Mezz Sneaky Pete Cues uses the United pin. Match that pin on any replacement shaft, or ask us and we will confirm the fit.
Yes. It uses the same United joint and WX-Sigma shaft as several higher-profile Mezz series; the difference is the plain four-prong design, not the internals.
One AZBilliards owner with a bocote Sneaky Pete recommended upgrading to Mezz's EX Pro shaft, calling it the best low-deflection feel Mezz offers, beyond the stock WX-Sigma shaft.
Every Sneaky Pete we carry uses Mezz's United joint with a 12.50mm classic wood shaft and a wrapless grip.
Mezz USA publishes a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects, plus a 14-day window on direct purchases. Miki Co. in Japan separately advertises a longer lifetime warranty on its own site.
Mezz USA told an AZBilliards buyer the butt sleeve on the current Sneaky Pete and other current Mezz cues measures 31.2mm, thinner than most production cues on the market.
