AVID Chroma – Abyss Pool Cue

I’ve been using this cue for a few week’s now and so far I’m quite delighted with it.This is my first low deflection cue/shaft.Mine has the 12.75 shaft.Took a little time to get accustomed to that but the transition went smooth.Cuetec’s quality is great.Look’s real good with the Abyss (dark blue) color. For the price I doubt you’ll find a better cue.Pool Dawg was great to deal with.Arrived quickly and extremely well packaged to protect the items purchased. Will do biz with them again.

  4. Mary J. –

    Highly vouch for

Honestly, this is my first pool cue ever and it feels amazing. Great balance and the shaft just glides in your hand. Would suggest to anyone in the market for a pool cue that is a beginner/intermediate player.

  5. Mike L. –

Excellent cue for the price point

I’ve been playing for over 20 years and this is a great pool cue for the price. It took me a little bit to get used to the low deflection shaft, but it has served me well so far.

  6. Karen T. –

    Superb cue!

This is such a great stick, and a wonderful price!

    Bought this as a gift

Bought this as a gift for my wife, whose game is improving and deserves more than a basic starter cue. She loves the simple, but very stylish design of the Chroma series and can really tell the difference playing with a low-deflection shaft. After trying hers out, I loved it so much I bought an Avid Era pool cue for myself, and since we both then had Avid cues, we also bought the Cuetech weight set and the Duo extension (. . . both also wonderful products). Way to go Cuetech, and thanks for the impeccable customer service, PoolDawg.

Weight & Balance

This cue is offered in WBSCORP, Yes. A lighter cue is easier to accelerate for a whippy, spin-friendly stroke; a heavier cue plants more solidly and drives the cue ball with less effort. Most players settle between 19 and 20 ounces.

This model takes a weight-bolt system, so the weight and balance point can be tuned after purchase. Adding weight toward the butt moves the balance rearward for a more planted feel; less weight shifts it forward for a livelier stroke. The balance point on a finished cue usually sits about 18 to 19 inches from the butt.

Questions about this cue

What joint does the Cuetec AVID Chroma CTAC8 - Abyss use?

It uses a 3/8X14 21.3mm (Cynergy) joint. That means any 3/8X14 21.3mm (Cynergy) shaft will thread straight onto this butt, so you can add a spare or upgrade later without changing cues. If you are matching a shaft you already own, check its pin against 3/8X14 21.3mm (Cynergy) before ordering — joints are not cross-compatible.

What shaft diameter is the Cuetec AVID Chroma CTAC8 - Abyss?

This cue ships with a 12.75mm shaft. Thinner shafts put more spin on the cue ball and feel crisper through the stroke; larger diameters feel fuller and are more forgiving on off-centre hits. Neither is better — it comes down to how you like the cue to hit.

Is this a carbon fiber or wood shaft cue?

The Cuetec AVID Chroma CTAC8 - Abyss comes with a Fiberglass shaft. Carbon fiber will not warp, ignores humidity and deflects less; quality maple gives the traditional feel a lot of players still prefer. Both play at a high level, so pick the one that matches how you want the cue to feel.

What is the Cuetec AVID Chroma CTAC8 - Abyss built for?

It is set up as a playing cue. Playing cues are balanced for control on shot-making, break cues are heavier with a harder tip for power transfer, and jump cues are short and light to get the cue ball airborne. Using the right one also protects your playing cue from break wear.

What kind of grip does it have?

The grip is wrapless. Irish linen wicks sweat and stays tacky, leather is plush and premium, and a no-wrap finish is fast and needs no maintenance. If your hands run warm, linen is usually the safer pick.

Is Quarter King an authorized Cuetec dealer?

Yes. We are an authorized Cuetec dealer, so this cue is genuine and carries the full manufacturer warranty against warpage and defects in workmanship. Warranty claims go through us — you do not have to deal with the factory yourself.

How fast does it ship, and can I return it?

Shipping is free on orders over $98 in the contiguous US, $5.50 flat otherwise, and you get tracking as soon as it moves. Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery on unchalked, unused product — contact us first for a return authorization so it is credited without delay.
