Description

The Xcel KS17 pool cue brings bocote into a black 4-point design, along with a black and brown Irish linen wrap. It is an entry-level playing cue for shooters who like warm wood tones against a dark base. The Xcel line keeps the specification practical, so the interest here is in the wood rather than in extras.

The build starts at the tip, a 13 mm brown leather one, on a 29-inch shaft of 100% hard rock maple with a 10 mm glossy black collar. Joining the two halves is a 5/16 x 18 joint, with a compression bumper at the foot of the butt. Linen covers the handle section, so the grip hand has something textured to hold during a long frame.

Black and bocote brown are the main colours, and the wrap repeats the two tones. The black Implex butt cap finishes the lower end, and the brown in the wrap ties it to the design. You choose between 18, 19, 20 and 21 oz at checkout, and then the cue is ready to be set up and used.

Questions about this cue

What joint does the Xcel KS17 Black & Bocote 4pt Design Pool Cue use?

It uses a 5/16X18 joint. That means any 5/16X18 shaft will thread straight onto this butt, so you can add a spare or upgrade later without changing cues. If you are matching a shaft you already own, check its pin against 5/16X18 before ordering — joints are not cross-compatible.

What shaft diameter is the Xcel KS17 Black & Bocote 4pt Design Pool Cue?

This cue ships with a 13.00mm shaft. Thinner shafts put more spin on the cue ball and feel crisper through the stroke; larger diameters feel fuller and are more forgiving on off-centre hits. Neither is better — it comes down to how you like the cue to hit.

Is this a carbon fiber or wood shaft cue?

The Xcel KS17 Black & Bocote 4pt Design Pool Cue comes with a Classic Wood shaft. Carbon fiber will not warp, ignores humidity and deflects less; quality maple gives the traditional feel a lot of players still prefer. Both play at a high level, so pick the one that matches how you want the cue to feel.

What is the Xcel KS17 Black & Bocote 4pt Design Pool Cue built for?

It is set up as a playing cue. Playing cues are balanced for control on shot-making, break cues are heavier with a harder tip for power transfer, and jump cues are short and light to get the cue ball airborne. Using the right one also protects your playing cue from break wear.

What kind of grip does it have?

The grip is linen wrap. Irish linen wicks sweat and stays tacky, leather is plush and premium, and a no-wrap finish is fast and needs no maintenance. If your hands run warm, linen is usually the safer pick.

Is Quarter King an authorized Xcel dealer?

Yes. We are an authorized Xcel dealer, so this cue is genuine and carries the full manufacturer warranty against warpage and defects in workmanship. Warranty claims go through us — you do not have to deal with the factory yourself.

How fast does it ship, and can I return it?

Shipping is free on orders over $98 in the contiguous US, $5.50 flat otherwise, and you get tracking as soon as it moves. Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery on unchalked, unused product — contact us first for a return authorization so it is credited without delay.
