The McDermott SL5 Select Cue is a McDermott playing cue sold by Quarter King Billiards. It has a 3/8X10 joint and a 12.00mm classic wood shaft. It is in stock at $900, with free shipping over $98 and 30-day returns.

Description

Pacific blue stained Birdseye maple sets the look of the McDermott SL5, a Select Series playing cue with no wrap. The handle is natural stained Birdseye maple, and the butt sleeve is blue pearl with silver and blue pearl index rings on each side. The collar is black with silver rings housing a blue pearl ring, and the butt ends in a black plate with a gold McDermott logo and a black rubber bumper.

Its 29 inch i-Pro Slim shaft is 12mm and follows McDermott’s i-Pro hybrid taper. McDermott builds it from eight spliced pieces of premium maple bonded around a triple-layer carbon fiber core that runs the full length of the shaft, so it is a laminated wood shaft with a carbon core, not an all-carbon shaft. A carbon fiber composite ferrule and a 12mm Navigator tip finish the front end.

The joint is 3/8×10, a weight bolt allows the weight to be changed, and the cue is offered in 18, 19, 20 and 21 oz. An extension, case and joint protectors are not included. It carries McDermott’s lifetime warranty, which includes warpage.

    Great cue stick

I was wanting to upgrade to a low deflection shaft for a long time. This cue ended up being exactly what I wanted. It comes with the I pro slim shaft and the butt looks superb. The cue is absolutely beautiful in person without being too flashy and it performs so well. I’ll be using this as my primary play cue for many years. Also Pooldawg has never disappointed me. Even with a tip change this pool cue was delivered to me in just four days.

    I pro slim shaft

To be frank, i play quite a bit and for some time now, the ipro slim shaft functions great.

Weight & Balance

This cue is offered in WBMCD, Yes. A lighter cue is easier to accelerate for a whippy, spin-friendly stroke; a heavier cue plants more solidly and drives the cue ball with less effort. Most players settle between 19 and 20 ounces.

This model takes a weight-bolt system, so the weight and balance point can be tuned after purchase. Adding weight toward the butt moves the balance rearward for a more planted feel; less weight shifts it forward for a livelier stroke. The balance point on a finished cue usually sits about 18 to 19 inches from the butt.

Questions about this cue

What joint does the McDermott SL5 Select Cue use?

It uses a 3/8X10 joint. That means any 3/8X10 shaft will thread straight onto this butt, so you can add a spare or upgrade later without changing cues. If you are matching a shaft you already own, check its pin against 3/8X10 before ordering — joints are not cross-compatible.

What shaft diameter is the McDermott SL5 Select Cue?

This cue ships with a 12.00mm shaft. Thinner shafts put more spin on the cue ball and feel crisper through the stroke; larger diameters feel fuller and are more forgiving on off-centre hits. Neither is better — it comes down to how you like the cue to hit.

Is this a carbon fiber or wood shaft cue?

The McDermott SL5 Select Cue comes with a Classic Wood shaft. Carbon fiber will not warp, ignores humidity and deflects less; quality maple gives the traditional feel a lot of players still prefer. Both play at a high level, so pick the one that matches how you want the cue to feel.

What is the McDermott SL5 Select Cue built for?

It is set up as a playing cue. Playing cues are balanced for control on shot-making, break cues are heavier with a harder tip for power transfer, and jump cues are short and light to get the cue ball airborne. Using the right one also protects your playing cue from break wear.

What kind of grip does it have?

The grip is wrapless. Irish linen wicks sweat and stays tacky, leather is plush and premium, and a no-wrap finish is fast and needs no maintenance. If your hands run warm, linen is usually the safer pick.

Is Quarter King an authorized McDermott dealer?

Yes. We are an authorized McDermott dealer, so this cue is genuine and carries the full manufacturer warranty against warpage and defects in workmanship. Warranty claims go through us — you do not have to deal with the factory yourself.

How fast does it ship, and can I return it?

Shipping is free on orders over $98 in the contiguous US, $5.50 flat otherwise, and you get tracking as soon as it moves. Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery on unchalked, unused product — contact us first for a return authorization so it is credited without delay. Because this one is over $600, a 10% restocking fee applies to the return.

Compatible Shafts

This cue uses a 3/8X10 joint, so these shafts thread straight onto it. Not sure? Send us the cue and we will confirm the fit before you buy.
