Unlike most of the thin sizes in our lineup, which are traditionally built in wood, 11.80mm at Quarter King is almost entirely a carbon fiber platform, specifically Cuetec's Cynergy shafts. Cuetec builds these with multiple plies of resin-impregnated carbon fiber filament around a polyurethane foam core that stops several inches below the tip, leaving a rigid, low-mass cavity at the very front of the shaft. Less mass at the tip means less sideways push on the cue ball during an off-center hit, which is the same mechanism behind every low-deflection design, but the carbon fiber construction lets the shaft stay stiff despite the thin 11.80mm diameter, something harder to achieve consistently in solid wood at this size.
Cuetec markets the Cynergy 11.80mm shafts with a near-zero-rise taper, meaning the diameter barely changes over the first several inches of the shaft, which is intended to keep the stroke feeling level regardless of bridge length. Carbon fiber construction also tends to hold its straightness better over time than wood, since it isn't affected by humidity swings the way maple can be. Players who prefer the traditional wood hit sometimes find carbon fiber shafts sound and feel different at contact, so this is a size that suits players who have already decided they want a carbon fiber low-deflection shaft rather than a wood one. It also tends to appeal to players who travel or store their cue in variable conditions, since a carbon fiber shaft is less likely to pick up a warp from a hot car or a humid room than a thin wood shaft at the same diameter would be.
Cuetec is the dominant brand here with 18 of our 31 cues, followed by JFlowers, Jacoby, Pechauer, and Quarter King Billiards. Prices run from about $200 to about $1,440. The lineup includes the CT112 Mappa at about $1,070, the CT120NW X-Amber and CT121 X series cues at about $1,390 to $1,440, and the standalone Cynergy Cue Shaft at about $450 for players upgrading an existing cue. All are currently in stock. See the full range under Cuetec and shafts.
If you want a similarly thin profile in a wood shaft instead of carbon fiber, 11.75mm is the closest match in our stock. If you want to compare low-deflection construction methods side by side, our shaft type pages break down carbon fiber versus wood in more detail. As always, verify joint pin and thread compatibility on our joint type pages or with the shaft fit finder before buying a standalone replacement shaft, since a Cynergy shaft only bolts onto a butt built for its specific joint pin.
It's the diameter Cuetec uses for its Cynergy carbon fiber shaft line, which makes up most of our stock at this size.
Many players notice a different sound and feel at contact. Cuetec designs the foam core to keep some wood-like feedback, but it's not identical to solid maple.
Carbon fiber generally holds its straightness better over time since it isn't affected by humidity the way wood is, which matters more at thinner diameters.
Yes, we carry the standalone Cynergy Cue Shaft for players upgrading an existing cue, subject to joint compatibility.
