Description
The Athena ATHBK1 is a dedicated break cue with a metallic pearl finish. A grey and black Battle Axe transfer decorates the forearm, and the butt sleeve shows two axes. It has no wrap, a black collar with a silver ring, a black composite butt plate with a silver Athena logo and a rubber plug bumper.
Up front sits a phenolic tip and ferrule combo, and the ferrule is 1 inch phenolic. Phenolic is a hard, dense material that break cues commonly use because it holds up to the force of the break. The shaft is 28 1/2 inch hard rock maple, joined to the butt by a piloted 5/16×18 pin.
The ATHBK1 weighs 22 oz. It does not include an extension, a case or joint protectors. Warranty coverage is a limited one year manufacturer warranty, and the cue was made in China. A separate break cue lets a player keep the tip and ferrule of a playing cue away from break-shot wear.

What a battle ax!
Truthfully, i just started shooting in an APA league for the first time. Of course I wanted my own equipment. I picked out two cues, both Athena cues. One was a battle ax break cue. I was so satisfied when I started using it. I play eight ball and nine ball and more times than not I get at least one ball on my break. I have pocketed 2 and 3 balls too off a nine ball rack. I don’t feel that I have to put a huge amount of power behind it, just a good stroke and follow through. The 22 ounce weight feels nice. I shoot with all men and they wanted to try it and they were impressed too. They are all good shooters and said that the cue stick was quite silky and provided a lot of power with medium amount of force. I also like the option of being able to add weight in the butt if I want a little extra. I would highly endorse Athena cues for women. Good results without spending a huge amount of money.

In my experience, so my Battle Axe has just started playing pool and she picked this break cue and has been hitting more and more solid breaks. She absolutely loves this cue and every time she hits with it she has more and more confidence in her shots. The design is amazing and this will be a cue she will keep in her bag for a long time.

Superb Stick, and Terrific Value
From my perspective, i love the stick. It has improved my breaking, and is a reliable weight. I am considering adding a little more weight to it, but I am going to practice a bit more before I decide that. The graphic was pretty cool to. It was a good make for the amount.
