Description

The Athena ATH44 is a playing cue with a black forearm and butt sleeve covered in teal, blue and purple butterflies. A black Irish linen wrap provides the grip. The butt plate is black with a silver Athena logo, and the bumper is black rubber with a metal hole for the extension.

The shaft is 28 1/2 inch hard rock maple with a 10 to 12 inch pro taper. It is tipped with a 12.5mm seven-layer, vacuum sealed boar skin tip and a 1 inch fiber linen ferrule. The joint is a 5/16×18 piloted pin with a stainless steel collar and a black composite ring that has a thin silver ring inside it.

The ATH44 is offered in five weights from 17 to 21 oz, and the weight can be changed through the cue’s weight bolt. A 10 inch extension is included. No case or joint protectors come with it, and it carries a limited one year manufacturer warranty. It is made in China. Lighter cues tend to feel quicker through the stroke and heavier ones steadier, so pick the weight by feel.

Athena 2shaft/2? but cue case

Truthfully, bought Athena pool cue and bag for my wife. She is very pleased with the pool cue, especially the extension feature. Being short she HAD problems reaching for longer shots. Not an issue now. The matching case is very pleasant. There’s one design issue with the length of the cue case The shifts and butts drop too deep into the case. It makes it next to impossible to remove them without having to turn the cue case upside down. I had to place a piece of foam in the bottom to correct the concern. Order submission and speed of processing were outstanding. I received the order quickly. I would highly endorse Pooldawg to my friends. GREAT JOB, YOU’VE GOT MY BUSINESS FOREVER Thanks so much. 🎱

Weight & Balance

This cue is offered in WBACT, Yes. A lighter cue is easier to accelerate for a whippy, spin-friendly stroke; a heavier cue plants more solidly and drives the cue ball with less effort. Most players settle between 19 and 20 ounces.

This model takes a weight-bolt system, so the weight and balance point can be tuned after purchase. Adding weight toward the butt moves the balance rearward for a more planted feel; less weight shifts it forward for a livelier stroke. The balance point on a finished cue usually sits about 18 to 19 inches from the butt.

What joint does the Athena ATH44 Cue use?

It uses a 5/16X18 Piloted joint. That means any 5/16X18 Piloted shaft will thread straight onto this butt, so you can add a spare or upgrade later without changing cues. If you are matching a shaft you already own, check its pin against 5/16X18 Piloted before ordering — joints are not cross-compatible.

What shaft diameter is the Athena ATH44 Cue?

This cue ships with a 12.50mm shaft. Thinner shafts put more spin on the cue ball and feel crisper through the stroke; larger diameters feel fuller and are more forgiving on off-centre hits. Neither is better — it comes down to how you like the cue to hit.

Is this a carbon fiber or wood shaft cue?

The Athena ATH44 Cue comes with a Classic Wood shaft. Carbon fiber will not warp, ignores humidity and deflects less; quality maple gives the traditional feel a lot of players still prefer. Both play at a high level, so pick the one that matches how you want the cue to feel.

What is the Athena ATH44 Cue built for?
