Meucci 2020 Series Cues

Meucci's 2020 Series holds three cues in our system, each finished in a different color over the same Birdseye Maple build with genuine Paua shell inlay work. All three are currently out of stock. Meucci's current site groups this model together with the 21st Century cues rather than treating the 2020 as its own standalone collection, so we cover the shared background on both series' pages. Full specs, a shaft discrepancy worth knowing about, and warranty details are below.

Quarter King Billiards is an authorized Meucci dealer. Free shipping on orders over $98 (contiguous US) and 30-day returns. Every spec on this page is checked against the manufacturer's published data by our Wilmington, NC store team.

About Meucci 2020 Series Cues

About the Meucci 2020 Series

Meucci's 2020 Series is a compact line: three cues in our system, all priced at $1,225 and all currently showing as out of stock. Meucci's own site doesn't sell it as a standalone "2020 Series" collection anymore. Instead, the 2020 Meucci Cue is grouped together with the 21st Century models inside a combined "Century Series" collection, which Meucci describes as "tried and true models that changed the entire industry." We keep the two as separate categories here because that's how our own catalog is organized, but the manufacturer's own framing is useful context: neither line is a new release, both are older, established Meucci designs that have stayed in production long enough to earn that label.

That kind of staying power fits the rest of Meucci's history. The company traces back to 1960, when Bob Meucci started building cues out of his father's tool-and-die shop near Chicago, and formed B.M.C., Bob Meucci Customs, in Glenview, Illinois in 1969, a company many collectors consider the first true Meucci. The modern Meucci Originals brand took shape in 1975 in Olive Branch, Mississippi, and every cue built since, including the three in this series, is made in the USA, now out of the company's Byhalia, Mississippi shop. Bob Meucci's own standing in the industry includes a 2006 induction into the International Cuemakers Hall of Fame for pioneering high-precision, metal-lathe cue construction.

Technology, in Plain English

Paua Shell Inlay and Birdseye Maple Build

Meucci's own product listing for the 2020 Meucci Cue describes it as built around genuine Paua shell inlays set in cupped inlay work over a Birdseye Maple forearm, joined with a 5/16x18 pin and finished with a clear-coated Irish linen wrap. That's a more decorative build than Meucci's plainer Sneaky Pete or Economy lines, closer in spirit to the inlay-heavy Casino and Hall of Fame series, though the 2020 doesn't carry a card or dice theme.

Shaft Spec: an Unresolved Discrepancy

Shaft construction is one place where our own records and Meucci's current site don't line up, and we're not going to pick a side. Our product data lists all three 2020 Series cues as fitted with Carbon Fiber shafts. Meucci's Carbon Pro Shaft, when it's used, wraps multi-directional carbon fiber filaments around a polyurethane foam core plugged with maple at both ends, aimed at a warmer feel than a hollow carbon shaft. But Meucci's own current product page for the 2020 Meucci Cue instead lists the standard Pro Shaft, a single piece of hard rock maple with a 14-inch taper and low effective deflection, as the model's stock spec. Shaft construction on a given cue can shift across production runs, or a cue can be re-shafted before it reaches a secondary buyer, so if the exact shaft material on one of these three matters to you, confirm it on the individual product listing or ask us directly before you order.

Tip and Ferrule

Across the wider Meucci catalog, the standard tip is a 12.5mm Ultra Skin Medium over a 1/2-inch hydraulic ferrule, though carbon-shafted cues in our data sometimes pair with a polycarbonate or fiber ferrule instead. Check the individual 2020 Series listings for the exact tip and ferrule fitted to each cue.

What's in the 2020 Series Lineup

All three cues share the identical build described above and the identical $1,225 price, so the choice between them comes down to finish: the ME2020BL in black, the ME2020NAT in a natural wood finish, and the ME2020WH in white. Our own color-tag data for the series adds a bit more nuance than the three finish names alone suggest: it logs grey as the most common accent tone across the three, with blue, green and multicolor each appearing once, likely reflecting inlay and veneer accents rather than the overall cue color. All three are currently out of stock in our system, which isn't unusual for a compact, long-running series like this one; check the individual listings or contact us if you want to know when a specific finish is expected back.

Meucci’s Own Build Sheet for the 2020 Cue

Meucci’s own specification sheet for the 2020 Meucci Cue lists the stock shaft as The Pro at a full 29 inches and 12.5mm, a 0.5-inch polycarbonate ferrule, a Black-Medium tip, and a weight of 19.0 ounces that can be moved between 18 and 20 ounces through Meucci’s Everlock weight-bolt system. That lines up with our own catalog entry on joint pin, wrap and adjustable weight, but not on shaft material, which is the discrepancy covered above. Meucci currently offers this cue in seven shell and accent colors on its own site: Blue, Purple, Mother of Pearl, Black, Pink, Green and Red. Our own three finishes cover the Blue and a Mother-of-Pearl-style build directly, while our third finish, a natural-shell build, is not among Meucci’s current standard color list, which suggests it may be an older or special-order option rather than something still offered new.

Materials and Construction, Explained

Birdseye Maple, the wood used for the 2020 Series forearm, gets its rippled, eye-like grain figure from the tree growing under stress, and cuemakers prize it because that dense, irregular grain resists warping better than plain straight-grain maple while giving each cue a pattern no two blanks share.

Paua shell, the iridescent material set into the forearm and butt sleeve here, is harvested from a New Zealand abalone species and prized in cue and knife making for a blue-green shimmer that shifts with the light, a decorative step up from the plainer synthetic-ivory inlays used on some of Meucci’s less expensive lines.

The 0.5-inch polycarbonate ferrule mounted ahead of the tip is a modern substitute for the ivory ferrules older cues once used, chosen because polycarbonate resists cracking under repeated impact without the supply issues real ivory carries. If any of these terms are new to you, our glossary covers the rest of the parts that make up a two-piece cue.

Joint, Shaft and Compatibility

All three 2020 Series cues use Meucci's standard 5/16x18 joint pin and a 12.50mm shaft diameter, and all three come with a Linen Wrap rather than a bare wrapless handle, per our own catalog data. As noted above, our records classify the shaft type as Carbon Fiber for this series specifically, which you can compare against the maple-shafted Classic Wood cues that make up most of the rest of the Meucci catalog. If you want to buy a Carbon Pro or Pro Shaft separately to fit an existing Meucci butt, our full shafts category carries both.

Who It Suits

Set the shaft discrepancy aside for a moment: every Meucci cue, this series included, is built around the same wood-to-wood joint the company says lets a player generate power and spin "with less effort" than a stiffer, more conventional build. At $1,225, the 2020 Series sits well above Meucci's $620 Economy Series and roughly in line with the $1,225 to $1,455 range of the 21st Century cues it's grouped with on Meucci's own site, so it suits a player who already wants to spend at that level for the Paua shell and Birdseye Maple build specifically, rather than someone comparison-shopping purely on price.

Warranty and What to Know Before You Buy

Every 2020 Series cue carries Meucci's Limited 1-Year Manufacturer Warranty against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship, running from the date of purchase, for the original purchaser only, with proof of purchase required, non-transferable to a later owner. It excludes warpage on wood parts, normal wear on the tip, ferrule, finish, wrap or bumper, damage from misuse or unauthorized modification, and exposure to extreme temperature or humidity. Where you register a claim depends on where you bought the cue: Meucci routes direct-from-factory purchases through one portal and Authorized Dealer purchases through a separate dealer-warranty portal, and Quarter King Billiards sells as an Authorized Meucci Dealer. Meucci itself says buying direct or through an Authorized Dealer is the surest way to avoid the counterfeit Meucci cues it warns circulate in the market, which matters more on an older, long-running design like this one than on a brand-new release. Our own catalog data also lists weight as changeable on cues like these, and doesn't show a case or joint protectors included, so plan on a separate case purchase if you buy one of these three.

What Players Say

We don't have series-specific player commentary on the 2020 cue itself, but broader sentiment on Meucci's shaft feel, gathered from AZBilliards forum threads, is directly relevant here given the shaft-spec question above. Some players specifically seek out the traditional, slightly whippy character of older Meucci shafts and say that's exactly what keeps them loyal to the brand, while players chasing a very stiff, ultra-low-deflection hit say Meucci isn't built for them. A few threads, including one titled "What happened to Meucci cues?", raise concerns about fit and finish slipping compared with the brand's earlier decades. None of that is specific to the 2020 Series, but it's worth reading before you commit to a cue where we can't confirm the shaft material with certainty.
