Action designed this joint around wood-to-wood contact at the mating faces with a quick-release pin, aimed squarely at the break and break/jump cue category rather than general playing cues. The goal is fast, repeatable assembly so a player can swap a break shaft for a jump shaft, or reconfigure a single cue for both roles, without wrestling with a long threaded engagement between shots.
Action's break/jump models built on this joint are designed so the same handle can serve double duty: threaded up with a heavier shaft it functions as a break cue, and with a lighter shaft it becomes a jump cue, all through the same quick-release pin. That two-in-one flexibility is a big part of why this joint shows up almost exclusively on Action's break, break/jump and masse cues rather than its standard playing-cue lines. Elite and Eight Ball Mafia build a smaller number of cues to the same Action Quick Release spec, which extends the pool of compatible break and jump shafts beyond Action's own catalog for buyers who mix and match parts across those three brands.
Because the joint keeps wood-to-wood contact rather than an all-metal connection, some feedback still travels through the joint compared with a purely stiff steel design, while the quick-release action keeps assembly fast. It suits players building a dedicated break or break/jump setup where speed of reconfiguration matters more than fine-tuned playing-cue feel, and who want one handle that can cover both roles without carrying two separate cues. It is less about tuning a subtle playing-cue feel and more about a joint that holds up to repeated hard breaks and quick reassembly, session after session, without the pin loosening or the alignment drifting out of true over repeated hard use.
Action and Elite each supply 10 of our 21 Action Quick Release cues, with Eight Ball Mafia rounding out the remaining listing, priced from about $150 to about $350. Representative picks include the Action ACTBJ05 Break Cue and Action ACTBJ56 Break/Jump Cue, both in stock, plus the Action ACTMS01 Masse Cue. Shop by brand at Action and Elite.
Action's Quick Release pin is proprietary to Action and the cues Elite and Eight Ball Mafia build to the same spec, and it is not compatible with other quick-release joints that look similar at a glance, such as Turbo-Lock or Uni-Loc. When shopping for a replacement break or jump shaft, stay within the same joint family, and check the glossary for background on how break and jump cue joints differ from playing-cue joints.
Action's own proprietary quick-release pin, built mainly for break and break/jump cues, with wood-to-wood contact at the joint face for fast, repeatable reconfiguration.
No. They look similar but are separate proprietary designs and are not interchangeable, even though both are quick-release systems.
