About Meucci Pool Cues

About Meucci Pool Cues

Meucci got its start in 1960, when Bob Meucci began turning cues by hand out of his father's tool-and-die shop near Chicago, and turned that into a company, B.M.C., in Glenview, Illinois in 1969. The Meucci name most players know today dates to 1975, when Meucci Originals opened in Olive Branch, Mississippi. Every cue in this category is still made in the USA, out of the company's current Byhalia, Mississippi shop. Bob Meucci was inducted into the International Cuemakers Hall of Fame in 2006 for pioneering the use of high-precision metal machine lathes in cue building, and though he stepped back from running the company day to day in 2022, he still works as Meucci's designer and brand ambassador. That's a company with more than six decades of continuous cuemaking behind it, from the original Chicago tool-and-die-shop years through the B.M.C. era in Illinois to the Byhalia shop that builds every cue in this category today.

Cue Building Technology in This Category

The Pro Shaft, Standard on Most Models

Most of the 49 cues in this category ship with Meucci's standard shaft, The Pro: a single solid piece of hard rock maple with a full 14-inch Pro Taper and a 12.5mm tip diameter, built for low effective deflection. Of the shafts we have size data for here, 42 come in at 12.50mm.

Carbon Pro Shaft, on Select Series

A smaller group, 13 of the cues here, use Meucci's Carbon Pro Shaft instead, which wraps multi-directional carbon fiber around a foam core plugged with maple at both ends, aimed at a warmer feel than a carbon shaft that leaves a hollow point. You'll find it on select cues across the 2020, 21st Century and Sneaky Pete series.

Kielwood Pro Shaft

Meucci also builds a torrefied Kielwood version of the Pro Shaft for players who want extra stiffness without losing the brand's low-deflection design, though it's a less common option across the cues we currently stock.

The Wood-to-Wood Joint

Every cue in this category joins shaft to butt with Meucci's wood-to-wood design. Meucci describes the resulting hit as a smooth, natural transfer of energy that lets a player generate power and spin "with less effort."

Tip and Ferrule

Our own catalog spec data for this category shows the standard tip is a 12.5mm Ultra Skin Medium over a 1/2-inch hydraulic ferrule on most models. A handful of cues instead use a 12.25mm Ivory Ultra Skin tip, a 12.75mm Ultra Skin soft tip, or a 13mm Phenolic tip, with ferrule material adjusted to match, so check the individual listing if tip feel matters to you.

The Meucci Lineup, Series by Series

Meucci 2020 Series Cues

Three cues, all priced at $1,225 and all currently out of stock. Meucci's current site groups this model into a combined "Century Series" collection alongside the 21st Century cues, describing both as "tried and true models that changed the entire industry." The 2020 cue itself is built around genuine Paua shell inlays over a Birdseye Maple forearm.

Meucci 21st Century Series Cues

Three cues priced from $1,225 to $1,455, one currently in stock. Meucci markets this line, branded the Century Series on its own site, the same way it markets the 2020 cue: as a legacy design that "changed the entire industry" rather than a new release.

Meucci Economy Series Cues

Two cues, both priced at $620, Meucci's most affordable line in this category. Meucci's own product description for the EC-7 highlights a straight-grain maple forearm and butt sleeve joined with the same traditional wood-to-wood joint used across the brand.

Meucci Gambler Series Cues

Six card-suit-themed cues, priced from $999 to $1,150. Meucci's own spec sheet for the Gambler 3 lists a Power Piston forearm, the standard Pro Shaft, and a 19-ounce weight adjustable between 18 and 20 ounces. Published retail listings single out the Gambler and Casino series as among Meucci's "most recognizable designs," pointing to their card and dice-themed inlays.

Meucci Hi-Pro Cues

Two cues priced from $870 to $900. Meucci's own copy for the Hi-Pro 1 calls it "a professional pool cue designed to perform," built with a curly maple forearm and a coated wrap.

Meucci Jayson Shaw Signature Cues

Three cues in this named signature series, priced from $550 to $1,130.

Meucci Power Piston Cues

Two cues priced from $735 to $1,220. Meucci's own listing for the Power Piston 2 describes it as "a well-engineered cue with 4 bold maple points on a black power piston backdrop," finished with a black pressed Irish linen wrap and a composite butt sleeve set off by German nickel silver rings.

Meucci Casino Cues

Seven cues priced from $1,475 to $1,520, the highest-priced series we carry from Meucci. Meucci positions the Casino line as cues "inspired by the allure of the casino," built around intricate inlay detail.

Meucci Hall of Fame Cues

Our largest Meucci grouping, eight cues priced from $840 to $950. Meucci markets the line as "celebrating legendary players and historical designs," naming the Road Agent and Giant Killer as example cues within the collection.

Meucci Sneaky Pete Cues

Four cues priced from $460 to $515. Meucci's own copy for its Sneaky Pete models emphasizes a low-key look built "with stealth in mind," pairing rosewood points and a maple forearm without the ornamentation found elsewhere in the lineup.

Materials and Construction, Explained

Hard rock maple, the wood behind Meucci’s standard Pro Shaft and several forearms in this category, is a dense, close-grained wood that resists denting and keeps its shape under repeated flexing, which is why Meucci and most American cue makers still build their default shaft around it rather than a softer wood.

Power Piston construction, used on several series in this category including the Gambler line and part of the 21st Century line, slips a sleeve of ivory- or ebony-colored high-impact plastic over a solid maple core, giving Meucci a stable surface to inlay without weakening the forearm’s structural wood.

Paua shell and cocobolo, the two decorative materials that show up most often on Meucci’s pricier series, come from a New Zealand abalone species and a dense tropical hardwood, both prized for holding fine inlay detail and, in Paua’s case, for a color that shifts with the light. The glossary covers these and the rest of the parts that make up a two-piece cue.

Joint, Shaft and Compatibility

All 49 Meucci cues we carry in this category use Meucci's 5/16x18 pin, so parts compatibility stays consistent across the whole lineup. Shaft sizing is concentrated at 12.50mm (42 of the 46 we have sized), with smaller runs of 12.75mm (2) and 13.00mm (2) cues. By shaft type, 34 of the cues here run Classic Wood shafts and 13 run Carbon Fiber; browse either shaft-type page, or our standalone shafts category if you're upgrading a shaft on its own rather than buying a complete cue. Wraps split 39 Linen Wrap to 7 Wrapless.

Who It Suits

Meucci's own description of its cues centers on feel: a smooth, natural transfer of energy through the wood-to-wood joint and Pro Shaft that the company sums up as letting a player generate power and spin "with less effort." That points the lineup toward players who want a forgiving, lower-effort hit rather than a very stiff, high-feedback cue. Within that shared feel, the ten series here still range from the plain, straight-grain $620 Economy cues to the heavily inlaid, $1,475-and-up Casino line, so a buyer sold on Meucci's playing feel still has real decisions to make about how much decorative work and joint-protector coverage they want to pay for. For comparison, if you're weighing a Meucci against other USA-built performance cues, our McDermott and Viking categories are worth a look; both sit in the same performance tier and are also made domestically.

Warranty and What to Know Before You Buy

Meucci covers cues with a Limited 1-Year Manufacturer Warranty from the date of purchase against defects in materials and workmanship; at its discretion, Meucci will repair, replace, or refund the original purchase price. Coverage is tied to the original purchaser with proof of purchase and does not transfer if the cue changes hands. It excludes warpage on wood parts, normal wear on the tip, ferrule, finish, wrap or bumper, damage from misuse or unauthorized modification, extreme temperature or humidity exposure, and cues bought from unauthorized sellers. Registration differs by purchase channel: cues bought straight from meuccicues.com use one warranty portal, while cues bought through an Authorized Dealer, which is how we sell every cue in this category, register through a separate dealer-warranty portal. Meucci itself flags that counterfeit cues carrying its name exist in the market, and says buying direct or through an Authorized Dealer is the surest way to know you're getting the real thing. Our own catalog data also shows most Meucci cues here list weight as changeable, and the large majority don't ship with a case or joint protectors included, so plan on buying a case separately if you don't already have one for a two-piece cue.

What Players Say

Meucci's current Pro Team, per the company's own roster, includes Mosconi Cup players Tyler Styer and Billy Thorpe, along with Tony Chohan, Kaylee McIntosh Driskell, LoreeJon Brown, Mike Massey, Corey Deuel, Eric Roberts and Jonathan Pinegar. Player opinion on the AZBilliards forums is more mixed: some threads describe the classic Meucci shaft feel as "whippy" in a way loyal players specifically seek out, while others who prefer a stiff, ultra-low-deflection hit say it's not for them, and a few raise concerns about build quality slipping compared with earlier decades. That's community sentiment we're passing along, not something Meucci or we can verify ourselves.

Where to Go From Here

What Meucci is known for

Meucci is an independent American cue maker built around a distinctly different playing feel from most production cues: a wood-to-wood joint, with no metal collar, paired with the company's own low-deflection Meucci Pro Shaft, together marketed as producing a softer, more forgiving hit than a stiff, metal-jointed cue. PoolDawg, an authorized Meucci dealer, confirms Meucci cues are made in the USA. The brand's signature series carry bold card-and-dice inlay work (Gambler, Casino) or revisit its own history (Hall of Fame), and Meucci also offers a carbon-fiber shaft with a foam core built to cut down the high-pitched "clink" some carbon shafts produce. League and tournament players who've built their game around that softer hit tend to stay loyal to the brand across multiple cues.

We currently stock 45 Meucci items, from $430 to $1,520.

What joint does Meucci use, and which shafts fit?

About 100% of the Meucci cues we stock use the 5/16X18 joint. The joint is what decides shaft fitment — thread and face both have to match, so a shaft cut for a different pin will not thread on no matter how good it is.

Meucci technology, in plain English

Meucci Pro Shaft
Meucci's standard low-deflection shaft, designed to reduce cue ball deflection while keeping the soft, responsive feel the brand is known for.
Wood-to-Wood Joint
Instead of a metal joint collar, Meucci mates the shaft and butt wood-to-wood, which the company says softens the hit compared to a rigid metal joint.
Carbon Pro Shaft
An optional carbon-fiber shaft with a polyurethane foam core, built to cut down the high-pitched sound common to other carbon-fiber shafts, with a 13mm tip option.

What players say about Meucci

Consistently praised for

  • Players consistently describe the hit as smoother and softer than a typical stiff-jointed production cue.
  • The wood-to-wood joint is credited with making the cue easier to control on soft, touch shots.
  • League and tournament players say the low-deflection shaft lets them trust their spin without overcompensating.
  • The Gambler and Casino inlay work draws collectors who want a cue that's visually distinctive, not just a player.
  • Owners who buy one Meucci often come back for a second once they're used to the feel.

Common criticisms

  • That same soft, wood-to-wood hit is polarizing — players who prefer a stiff, solid-feeling shot don't always like it.
  • The wood-to-wood joint needs more care around humidity and temperature swings than an all-metal joint.
  • Entry-level Economy and 21st Century cues carry noticeably plainer forearms than the Gambler or Casino lines.
  • Players chasing the lowest possible deflection numbers often gravitate to dedicated low-deflection carbon-shaft brands instead.

Also worth a look at this price

If you like where Meucci sits on price but want to compare before you commit, these land in the same range:

  • McDermott — another American two-piece maker with a stiffer, more traditional hit
  • Predator — if a stiffer, ultra-low-deflection carbon shaft matters more than a soft hit
